Sent the President a Valentine…

missing-piece1This idea came from Alexa — for all of us who are praying for a change of heart in our president concerning his stance on abortion.

Get a red envelope. On the front, address it to:

President Barack Obama
The White House
1600 Pennsylvania Ave. NW
Washington, D.C. 20500

On the back of the envelope, write the following message.

This envelope represents one child who died in abortion.
It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world.
Responsibility begins with conception.

Put it in the mail, and send it. Then forward this to every one of your friends who you think would send one too. I wish we could send 50 million red envelopes, one for every child who died before having a chance to live. Maybe it will change the heart of the president.

If you’re looking for another way to celebrate the holiday, pick up a copy of Lee Ezell’s book The Missing Piece, a touching account of her only child, who was conceived after Lee was sexually assaulted. She made an adoption plan for her daughter … and years later was reunited with her.

A wonderful book for any woman, but a real Godsend for any woman in a crisis pregnancy. Pick up a copy today!

  1. “It is empty because that life was unable to offer anything to the world.”

That sounds something remarkably similar to what my friend D said. In fact, that is almost exactly what he said.

You do the abortion vs. adoption argument too? That must be tiring.

    • I’m not sure what you mean about “doing the abortion vs. adoption argument.” If you mean, do I believe that adoption is always a better option than abortion, then yes that’s true. If you mean, should women who are in crisis pregnancies be encouraged to choose adoption rather than abortion, then that’s accurate as well. In the past two weeks I’ve heard two stories about women who wanted late-term abortions whose children survived … and both were killed (one put in a garbage bag in the trash, the other drowned in a river). In one case, the woman is being charged with murder.

I know you have strong feelings against adoption, particularly international adoption, and that you write about it extensively. To me, THAT sounds tiring. So does spending a lot of time on websites that promote a point of view I find personally objectionable. I have to wonder — why do you keep coming back? If it’s to learn something, great … If it’s just to add conflict, I think your time would be better spent elsewhere. Think about it — and thanks!

  2. I was referring to the very old & tired adoption vs. abortion argument of ethical standards that never seems to end.

“In the past two weeks I’ve heard two stories about women who wanted late-term abortions whose children survived … and both were killed”

I was going to say something about how late-term abortions aren’t even legally allowed, but come to think of it, it actually is allowed in certain countries.

“I know you have strong feelings against adoption, particularly international adoption, and that you write about it extensively. To me, THAT sounds tiring.”

It is – but people have also learned quite a bit from me. That is the reward. I also see a lot of adoption myths still flying around. Of course, if these people ever had to face the truth about international adoption… it would turn their worlds upside down.

One of the most memorable quotes I have heard is, “There is no fool like the one who wants to be fooled.”

“So does spending a lot of time on websites that promote a point of view I find personally objectionable. I have to wonder — why do you keep coming back?”

Oh, I thought I’d check in, because some of your previous posts made me LOL. Particularly the one about the car conversation between you and your child that happened months ago.

And then I happened to skim down to your posts on abortion, and well… felt like leaving a comment.

Good question, Heidi. Contrary to what you may believe, I rarely spend time at pro-adoption websites. Your website happens to be only one out of 2 websites that I find to be pro-adoption. I’ve actually only popped in here about once in the past 2-3 months. Trust me, I don’t have your blog on my FeedReader or anything.

    • The argument never ends because there is truth in it. The only way to do away with the need for abortion is to make adoption the better choice for women in crisis pregnancies who choose not to parent. I’ve heard it all (believe me) from birth mothers who say they never considered abortion for a minute, that the choice was always parenting vs. adoption, not abortion vs. adoption. But with 1.3 million children each year killed by their own mothers, and child abuse and neglect on the rise, clearly a better plan is in order.

“…the truth about international adoption…” is a loaded phrase if every I’ve heard one. To hear some tell it, EVERY child born abroad and brought to the U.S. had an idyllic life with loving family before the “rich Americans” intervened. No doubt there are abuses that need to be resolved. But that does not mean the whole system should be abolished. (Just as children who are adopted here sometimes have more emotional or developmental needs than their parents can handle on their own, and need assistance.)

Anyway … time to get back to work!

Except that here, in America, people can GET that assisstance.

“But with 1.3 million children each year killed by their own mothers”

How do you know this is true? Do you have a credible source that you can provide?

Sometimes. However, as any parent of children with severe emotional problems can tell you, it isn’t always possible. Sometimes the best you can do is cope.

The information you are asking about is out there for anyone who wants to find it. However, the sources I’d be most likely to use (such as the Right to Life website) would probably not satisfy you. So, I challenge you to do your own fact-finding. No doubt you will find … as I did … that the numbers can vary a bit from site to site. But no matter how you look at it, the numbers are staggering — even by those recorded by Planned Parenthood/Guttmacher Institute. And under this administration, it seems inevitable that things will only get worse with regard to the number of children killed.
